ST1-ST5: 24 doctors in training

ST2–6 Trainees rotate around HEETV.  The rotation includes Wycombe Hospital in High Wycombe, the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, Milton Keynes University Hospital in Milton Keynes and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

For the first year of training, all trainees are based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

The rotations are decided taking into account the individual’s training needs. Each doctor will generally spend in total 2-3 years in one or two of the district general hospitals in the programme and 2-3 years in Oxford.

Training programme for ST1s:

In addition to regular clinical meetings and the apprenticeship-style training offered by the department, other training opportunities will be available to ST1’s:

  • Weekly systems-based teaching
  • Weekly interesting cases (black box) meetings
  • Journal club/ audit presentations
  • National block teaching week
  • 2 further block teaching weeks for the trainees in the Southern Cluster
  • Cytology teaching sessions
  • Teaching sessions with senior trainees
  • National training days, i.e. academic day and RCPath welcome day
  • Regional training days, including wellbeing days and academic days for all trainees in HEETV

ST2-5 Trainees:

  • Regular interesting cases (black box) meetings
  • Journal club
  • Calman teaching sessions in Oxford once a month
  • Specialty attachments in neurology and paediatrics pathology in Oxford
  • Molecular pathology teaching in Oxford
  • Regional training days, including wellbeing days and academic days for all trainees in HEETV
