No. of trainees per school / deanery:

There are 4 ST1s at the Oxford Training School and 6 ST2-6 trainees.  Overall there are a maximum of 24 registrars training in Histopathology in HEETV.

ST1 rotations:

For the first year of training, all trainees are based at Wycombe Hospital, Buckinghamshire.

ST2-5 rotations:

ST2–6 trainees rotate around HEETV.  The rotation includes Wycombe Hospital in High Wycombe, the Royal Berkshire in Reading, Wexham Park in Slough, Milton Keynes University Hospital in Milton Keynes and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Training programme for ST1’s:

In addition to regular clinical meetings and the apprenticeship-style training offered by the department, other training opportunities will be available to ST1’s:

  • Regular interesting cases (black box) meetings
  • Journal club
  • 8 teaching days at the John Radcliffe Hospital
  • National block teaching week in Bristol
  • 2 further block teaching weeks for the trainees in the southern cluster
  • Cytology teaching sessions
  • One to one teaching sessions with a senior trainee
  • National training days, i.e. academic day and RCPath welcome day
  • Regional training days for the trainees in HEETV

ST2-5 trainees:

  • Regular interesting cases (black box) meetings
  • Journal club
  • Calman teaching sessions in Oxford once a month
  • 2 weeks of specialty attachments in neurology and paediatrics pathology in Oxford
  • Molecular pathology module in Oxford
  • Regional training days for the trainees in HEETV
