Stage D

Stage D lasts for 12 months. This stage prepares trainees for consultant practice. Many trainees will use this time to develop a sub speciality interest in one or more areas of histopathology (e.g. gastrointestinal, skin or gynaecological pathology). Over the twelve months trainees move to independent reporting, that is signing out reports without consultant review. At the end of stage D trainees receive their certificate of completion of training (CCT) which allows them to take up a post as a consultant.
